Hogmanay Heroes

And we’ll show you a good time if it’s carnage that you want
It’s a lairy night before you if you are a Dublin debutante
If you stick right by my side, we will take you for a ride
No time for questions now, it’s Hogmanay and this is how

Young lad Gavin Doherty’s gone missing on the bridge
We’ve eleven jars of liquor left and that’s just in the fridge
Passion’s in the eyes, and our Rosa says she feels it going wild
Let’s go wild

As we take another swig from the glasses in our hands
It’s complete obliteration, that’s exactly what we planned for you
That’s another failure through, there’s only one thing left to do
Come on, come on, yeah, oh, yeah

Tonight we’re gonna have a party
And everybody’s gonna come along
Yeah, tonight we’re gonna party
And wonder where that year has gone

Paul McGahan is the man
With the greatest plan of action
Shut the door, hit the floor, don’t let daylight be distraction
Light another cigarette, don’t just be a silhouette
Everything’s for taking, yeah, it simply hasn’t happened yet

Let’s go into the city as we delve into disgrace
We can dance like Brian Kelly when we find another place
Don’t waste time in holding back, now’s the time to lose it
Go wild, let’s go wild

And let’s get lost in time as they’re counting down the clock
They’ll since Auld Lang Sine as we dance around the Dock
Let common sense ignore us, there’s a whole New Year before us
Come on, come on, yeah, oh, yeah

Tonight we’re gonna have a party
And everybody’s gonna come along
Yeah, tonight we’re gonna party
And wonder where that year has gone

Tonight we’re gonna have a party
And everybody’s gonna come along
Yeah, tonight we’re gonna party
And wonder where that year has gone

And that’s another year that we’re throwing to the past
And it seems I’ve blinked ‘cause it’s going by so fast
I will show you what you want, my midnight Mademoiselle
Hogmanay’s upon and we’re gonna raise some hell

Twelve o’clock approaching as the drinks go down
I will hold you up till there’s no-one else around
Passion’s in the eyes and I can feel it going wild
Let’s go wild, let’s go wild

Tonight we’re gonna have a party
And everybody’s gonna come along
Yeah, tonight we’re gonna party
And wonder where that year has gone

Tonight we’re gonna have a party
And everybody’s gonna come along
Yeah, tonight we’re gonna party
And wonder where that year has gone

The Lonely Hearts of England

Approval and affection, well they force you to perform
When you look at your reflection, does it make you feel warm?
Or does something hold you back, until someone holds you tight
Someone for a life-time, or maybe just a night
And I’ve tried and failed many times, I’ve rarely won
But I am a chatty bugger, yes I am my mother’s son
So I’ll try and find my finest shirt and show ‘em what I can
I’ve got various ambitions as an independent man
Does it make you start to question, is it better left unsaid?
With the power of suggestion there’s a stranger in your bed
Does it meet your expectation, does it ever guarantee?
Will the lonely hearts of England stand and raise a glass with me

With the girls all wearing dresses, and the fellas wearing shoes
Everything excessive, and everything to lose
When the bells ring out for two o’clock, it’s the measure of your night
You’ll either end-up frisky or you’ll end-up in a fight
Are you standing with your sweetheart, are you looking for a match?
Do you tell yourself in silence that you really are a catch?
When you step outside for a cigarette and you try to make her laugh
And then treat her to the doubles with the last of the overdraft
Just get another round in, we’re wasting precious time
No celibates, we’re celebrating living in our prime
Do you often sit and wonder, what happiness might be?
Will the lonely hearts of England stand and raise a glass with me

Old Father Time with his stacks of coins is propping-up the bar
He’s seen all kinds of faces, but he’s never been that far
He’s fragile and he’s bony, with skin as thin as silk
But he’d drink a pint of whiskey like you’d drink a pint of milk
When your song came on the jukebox, and you had to stand and jive
And it’s nine o’clock on a Friday night when you really come alive
Just lose your inhibitions, and forget about the truth
‘cause the one thing that you can’t get back is the freedom of your youth
And by twelve o’clock tomorrow, I doubt that we’ll recall
When the truth comes out and you start to shout and there’s nothing past these walls
And they’re snoozing by the telly if they choose to disagree
Will the lonely hearts of England stand and raise a glass with me

Have you spotted someone sexy, are you trying to catch their eye?
It’s a bloody expensive taxi if you stand around all shy
With a little introduction and a little bit of charm
You’ve a belly filled with butterflies and someone on your arm
I’ve told you many times before and I’ll tell you many more
You’re my greatest friend in the bloody world, and that is something sure
And I know I’ve never met you, but you’re such a bloody star
So let’s gather our possessions and we’ll find another bar
If it’s sunny or it’s snowing, it’s a ritual for life
If you’re looking for a girlfriend or you’re hiding from your wife
If you’re drinking on your pension, if you’re young and fancy free
Will the lonely hearts of England stand and raise a glass with me
Will the lonely hearts of England stand and raise a glass with me
Will the lonely hearts of England stand and raise a glass with me

All The Rest Is Propaganda

Tender words between us
From morning through to night
Holding hands but sat alone
Stumbling over what to write
You casually commented
And led me to believe
That after all you’re longing
For the heart that’s on my sleeve
I never did do big and bold
Perhaps it’s for the better
Shouting loud, standing
Well that doesn’t always get her
And I’m weary of the fact
That emotions can confuse
Reality or romance
The beauty or the blues

And if you wanna shout then shout, like you’ve never done before
And if you wanna kiss then kiss me, like you’ve never done before
And if you wanna run let’s run right through that open door
And if you wanna shout then shout, like you’ve never done before

We stroll along the precinct
You ask me where we’re going
I haven’t got the faintest clue
And I’ve no intent of knowing
But if our fingertips entwine
And neither stops to check the time
Full-on focus, fancy free
It couldn’t grow much more for me, oh yeah

And if you wanna shout then shout, like you’ve never done before
And if you wanna kiss then kiss me, like you’ve never done before
And if you wanna run let’s run right through that open door
And if you wanna shout then shout, like you’ve never done before

And I seldom speak, but silence stifles
When you speak, a thousand rifles
Punctuating whilst I’m waiting
The highlight of my week
And with that lip that I’ve been biting
Without that fear that I’ve been fighting
The whole entire world will stop, and
And I’m inviting, yeah

And if you wanna shout then shout, like you’ve never done before
And if you wanna kiss then kiss me, like you’ve never done before
And if you wanna run let’s run right through that open door
And if you wanna shout then, then do it like you’ve never done before

43 Degrees

The sun sets on the evening, she's squinting in the light
Her heart is set on leaving, we're welcoming the night
She ties her hair up slowly with sadness in her eyes
"I'm sick to death of England, rainy summer skies"
I place my arm around her and wave away a frown
"Tonight I'm gonna take you out, we're tearing-up the town"
No need for flights or 43 Degrees
We don't have sandy beaches but it's gonna be a breeze

We're heading on a mission, her friends have come to meet her
Loosen inhibitions with another Margarita
Balearic beats within us and we're heading for the bars
You're never gonna stop us now, the weekend's come, its ours
'cause Friday night, and Saturday night, every night

All we want to do is get high, all we want to do is get high
All we want to do is get high, all we want to do
All we want to do is get high, all we want to do is get high
All we want to do is get high, all we want to do

And the feeling is ecstatic, her troubles are beneath her
Through the ceiling, through the attic, to the soundtrack of Ibiza
I've never seen her move so much, you should have seen her
The weekend takes her out of touch, nothing comes between us
I place my arm around her, she's got me on my knees
Franco and Maria and it's 43 Degrees

'cause youth is standing on our side, we're never looking back
Another beat, another tide, another thrill, another track
'cause Friday night, and Saturday night, every night

All we want to do is get high, all we want to do is get high
All we want to do is get high, all we want to do
All we want to do is get high, all we want to do is get high
All we want to do is get high, all we want to do
Friday night, and Saturday night, every night

Lowlife

When there’s nothing left for death to take away
You strain yourself to struggle through the day
You have the gift of isolation
Starved from sight or conversation
You’re paralysed, you’ve never been so scared
In the depths of your mind, where mercy is spared
You’re searching for a reason to be sober
Never been dry since that week in October
And you can’t find the comfort in conform
You just shudder, shelter from the norm
It’s all you know, oh

I’m so sick of this, I’m so tired of this
I’m so sick of this lowlife, fuck right off with the same old bullshit
I’m so sick of this, I’m so tired of this
I’m so sick of this goddamn lowlife that I inhabit

When the only words she’s giving you are cold
The memories you cling to are desperately old
Reluctantly hiding in resistance
Find yourself questioning your existence
And all you want is something more
But you can’t unlock your bedroom door
And she’d sooner sleep alone than stay
When there’s nothing left for death to take away
Destruction has found its full throttle
You can’t see past the bottom of the bottle
It’s all you know, oh

I’m so sick of this, I’m so tired of this
I’m so sick of this lowlife, fuck right off with the same old bullshit
I’m so sick of this, I’m so tired of this
I’m so sick of this goddamn lowlife that I inhabit

When there’s nothing left for death to take away
You strain yourself to drag from day to day
Eyes wide open, arms aloft
You scream at the world to fuck right off
When you can’t unlock your bedroom door
And there’s nothing left worth fighting for
You’ll find that bottle, find that vein
The deeper you get, the sweeter the pain

And you’re far too scared the find the truth
You miss the blanket of your youth
When you wake in the morning, you can’t bear to face
The reflection before you, that fucking disgrace
You step outside but no-one’s there
You hide behind an icy stare
When you slip to the shadows and sink to the street
Hands in your pockets, eyes on your feet
And you’ve never got money, it’s pissed up the wall
You run from your family, too scared to call
When your girlfriend ignores you, she doesn’t exist
You carry a warning, constantly pissed
And there’s nothing left, it drags you further
There’s nothing left, it drags you further
There’s nothing left, it drags you further
There’s nothing left to fade away
And there’s no existence, you can’t resist
No existence, you can’t resist
There’s no existence, you can’t resist, oh
There’s no existence, you can’t resist
No existence, you can’t resist
There’s no existence, you can’t resist, oh

Fireworks

That delicate way you take me to that distant place
I never really told you because you never asked
And I never really notice until I’m left to chase
I’ve barely stopped to breathe and the moment’s passed

And that delicate way you break me, design my night and day
Devotion soon devours, anxiety would roam

And then I'm scrutinising sentences, every single word you say
And I’d kick myself for hours on the journey home

Watching fireworks, through the window
Fireworks, as our love grows

Fireworks, through the window
Fireworks, watch our love grow

The only way to love myself is spending time with you
The only way to love myself is spending time with you

The only way to love myself is spending time with you
The only way to love myself is spending time with you

So let’s not ruin this with words, the chat-up lines and charms
'cause nothing else feels quite as safe as lying in your arms

This moment is for keeping, Lose everything we ever knew
And those sighs when you were sleeping, I know you feel the same way too

I'm pining for a second of treasured interaction
A lifetime would be blissful but I'll settle for a fraction

Watching fireworks, through the window
Fireworks, as our love grows

Fireworks, through the window
Fireworks, watch our love grow

The only way to love myself is spending time with you
The only way to love myself is spending time with you

The only way to love myself is spending time with you
The only way to love myself is spending time with you

Watching fireworks, through the window
Fireworks, as our love grows

Fireworks, through the window
Fireworks, watch our love grow

Watching fireworks, through the window

Fireworks, as our love grows
Fireworks, through the window
Fireworks, watch our love grow

Maria, Full of Grace

I saw the beauty in her eyes
And though I searched, I could not recognise a soul
Well she was blind from compromise
And as she talked, I recognised that time had taken toll

And she would stop herself from smiling
But the bottle was beguiling
She’s satisfied in silence as she sits
And she’s satisfied with silence ‘cause it fits
Oh yeah, it fits
I saw the sadness in her sighs
And as I watch, I know she tries to make amends
I’ve seen the days that she’ll despise, inconspicuous disguise
And time had taken toll on her wits
And you would never hear her laughter
Here on in or ever after
She’s satisfied in silence as she sits
And she’s satisfied with silence ‘cause it fits
Oh yeah, it fits

‘cause when I saw my sweet Maria
She was lonesome and afraid
And through the night-time she was crying on the pillow as she said
And though she longs for me to free her
No more a mistress than a maid
She would stop herself from trying
‘cause she was lonesome and afraid

I saw the weakness in her words
And though she’d speak, I never heard it from her heart
And they were often quite absurd, it’s just the way that she preferred
As time had slowly taken her apart
And she would stop herself from speaking
Of the freedom she was seeking
She’s satisfied in silence as she sits
And she’s satisfied with silence ‘cause it fits
Oh yeah, it fits
I saw the darkness in her days
And she would spend her time just gazing at the wall
And her friends would say it’s just a phase, and plod-along with old clichès
As time had taken toll
I saw the curtains were concealing
She was certain of the feeling
She’s terrified in silence as she sits
But she’s satisfied with silence ‘cause it fits
Oh yeah, it fits

‘cause when I saw my sweet Maria
She was lonesome and afraid
And through the night-time she was crying on the pillow as she said
And though she longs for me to free her
No more a mistress than a maid
She would stop herself from trying
‘cause she was lonesome and afraid

Did It All Go To Plan?

I saw your picture yesterday
Is that a true reflection?
I’ve seen you slowly grow, and all the things that you tried to be
It seems so long since you portrayed
That image of perfection
Well at least that’s how they painted you for everyone to see
It looked like what you wanted and it felt like it was right
It felt like you were right at home as you slipped out of sight
Does it have to be like this?
Do it really have to be like this?

Well did it all go to plan?
Did it all go to plan?

I found a picture yesterday
It must be ten years old
Completely unaware of what was lying just around the bend
Rich in life, and words to say
You started to unfold
And you unravelled as you travelled, and it never seemed to end
It looked like what you wanted and it felt like it was right
It felt like you were right at home as you slipped out of sight
Does it have to be like this?
Do it really have to be like this?

Well did it all go to plan?
Did it all go to plan?

And I miss times when you would laugh, that twinkle in your eye would brighten-up my day
Yeah I miss the times when you would laugh, I wish that things were different every single day
And I miss times when you would laugh, that twinkle in your eye would brighten-up my day
Yeah I miss the times when you would laugh, I wish that things were different every single day

Maybe You Are After All?

And as a drop in your ocean I’m drowned by the notion
That I simply cease to exist
And I doubt that you’ll respond but I’ve grown rather fond
And so with my pen I persist
I don’t know where to start, from the head or the heart?
Or maybe from further below?
I’m ignoring the pain, this is written in vain
I’m smitten but you’ll, but you’ll never know, oh-oh-oh
Oh-oh-oh, oh-oh-oh
I’m smitten but you’ll never know
Oh-oh-oh, oh-oh

Yeah, I’m smitten but you’ll never know
And does admitting it soften the blow
Yeah, I’m smitten but you’ll never know
But fuck it, I’ll give it a go, oh-oh

And you may well protest at the hairs on my chest
The texture that you feel when we kiss
You’re taking second best, to stay in the nest
Not expecting that you’d fall for this
Oh, and there’s no-one to choose, there’s nothing to lose
At least you’d have something to show
So just swallow your pain, this is written in vain
You’re smitten but you’ll, but you’ll never know, oh-oh-oh
Oh-oh-oh, oh-oh-oh
You’re smitten but you’ll never know
Oh-oh-oh, oh-oh-oh

Yeah, I’m smitten but you’ll never know
And does admitting it soften the blow
Yeah, I’m smitten but you’ll never know
But fuck it, I’ll give it a go, oh-oh

Voluntary Confinement

As Sunday morning smells of toast are drifting through the nation
My senses have diminished and my body's drained of sleep
When littered pathways are my host and I'm weak with desperation
Now everything has finished and I am left
All alone

And twenty-seven miles for a night-out on the tiles
The benefit of hindsight is a wonderful perspective
And walking's not my style, so I stumble for a while
And I'm squinting in the light amidst my alcoholic haze

With God's help I will over-come this terrible affliction
And I'd shout for what it's worth, but there's no-one else around
And I'm certain that I'll conquer and escape from this addiction
But at this moment in time, I'm the only man on earth
I'm the only man on earth

As people eat their Sunday roast, I stumble-in through the back door
My senses have diminished and my body's craving sleep
When littered pathways are no more and sleep is just around the corner
Now everything has finished and I am left
All alone

Twenty-seven miles for a night-out on the tiles
The benefit of hindsight is a wonderful perspective, I'm reflective
And talking's not my style, so I mumble for a while
And days drift into night amidst my alcoholic haze

With God's help I will over-come this terrible affliction
And I'd shout for what it's worth, but there's no-one else around
And I'm certain that I'll conquer and escape from this addiction
But at this moment in time, I'm the only man on earth
I'm the only man on earth
