Failing To See The Attraction

Now you walk through the door and you brighten-up the place
And I'm trying to ignore him with that grimace on my face
And with his look of satisfaction and his arm around your waist
And every single action that I'm desperate to replace
Now I’m not trying to tell ya that I’m special or sublime
But every time I see him it sends shudders down my spine

And well it might just be a feeling and I guess I'll never know
Tonight it hits the ceiling and I might just let it show

'cause you're a very special kinda person
And you've got me with every single one of your moves
And it might just make this problem worsen
But I guess I've got something to prove, something to prove
And I'm failing to see the attraction
Yeah I'm failing to see the attraction

I see you gravitate towards, is my mind just playing tricks?
You come up and ask a simple question and I hit you back with six
And we get lost in conversation, then he comes and wins you back
With understated irritation, I feel an instinct to attack
‘cause I can see that he is worthless and he’s only in it for the sex
And when you look beneath the surface there’s nothing more than you’d expect

He just likes to chase 'em now and then, a with a bit of luck
If I never see his face again, it wouldn’t be so tough

'cause you're a very special kinda person
And you've got me with every single one of your moves
And it might just make this problem worsen
But I guess I've got something to prove, something to prove
And I'm failing, to see the attraction
Yeah I'm failing, to see the attraction
And I'm failing, to see the attraction
Yeah I'm failing, to see the attraction

And I'm failing, to see the attraction

Voluntary Confinement

As Sunday morning smells of toast are drifting through the nation
My senses have diminished and my body's drained of sleep
When littered pathways are my host and I'm weak with desperation
Now everything has finished and I am left
All alone

And twenty-seven miles for a night-out on the tiles
The benefit of hindsight is a wonderful perspective
And walking's not my style, so I stumble for a while
And I'm squinting in the light amidst my alcoholic haze

With God's help I will over-come this terrible affliction
And I'd shout for what it's worth, but there's no-one else around
And I'm certain that I'll conquer and escape from this addiction
But at this moment in time, I'm the only man on earth
I'm the only man on earth

As people eat their Sunday roast, I stumble-in through the back door
My senses have diminished and my body's craving sleep
When littered pathways are no more and sleep is just around the corner
Now everything has finished and I am left
All alone

Twenty-seven miles for a night-out on the tiles
The benefit of hindsight is a wonderful perspective, I'm reflective
And talking's not my style, so I mumble for a while
And days drift into night amidst my alcoholic haze

With God's help I will over-come this terrible affliction
And I'd shout for what it's worth, but there's no-one else around
And I'm certain that I'll conquer and escape from this addiction
But at this moment in time, I'm the only man on earth
I'm the only man on earth

You Probably Don't Even Realise When You Do The Things I Love The Most

And I haven't seen you for a while
Since just before you went away
But then I often see you smile
As my mind begins to stray
And I haven't really dreamt of you
Since you fell right out of sight
But then again, you've kept me wide awake
Through every single night

And you're probably unaware of just how much really I care
But then again I never told you, although I meant to
Because I do...

And you probably don't even realise when you do the things I love the most
Yeah, you probably don't even realise when you do the things I love the most

Yeah, it's the simple things I miss
And even as you’re hearing this
I bet you wonder what I meant by that
As I compile a second list
Of such gentle insignificance, subconsciously sublime
And my heart is growing fonder
It's getting longer every time

And you're probably unaware of just how much really I care
But then again I never told you, although I meant to
Because I do...

And you probably don't even realise when you do the things I love the most
Yeah, you probably don't even realise when you do the things I love the most
And you probably don't even realise when you do the things I love the most
Yeah, you probably don't even realise when you do the things I love the most

And I love the way you hold my hand and softly stroke my finger
The way you laugh beneath your breath when I call myself a singer
The way you always listen when I've got something to say
And I often see a smile
As your mind begins to stray...

A Few Quiet Drinks

A few quiet drinks with the music and the laughter
It's festive and warm on a cold winter's night
Last orders at midnight, we'll stay 'til just after
And then make our way home, when we've been for a bite

I turned-off my phone as we sat in the corner
And it soon slips my mind as the evening progresses
My girlfriend's at home, but I chose not to warn her
I'm sure she won't mind all these girls in these dresses

A few quiet drinks, nothing more, nothing less
A few quiet drinks, oh with my friends...

The drink seems to work, and I'm starting to dance
There's a fine-looking blonde with a fine-looking smile
My mates go berserk when I turn-down the chance
She knows I'm quite fond, and she's known for a while

Now it's not very big, and it's not very clever
As the alcohol sinks to my stomach with a powerful force
The lads go outside, leaving us two together
There's no need to think; nature soon takes its course

A few quiet drinks, nothing more, nothing less
A few quiet drinks, oh with my friends...

And I wake-up in the morning and cradle my head
Oh there's feelings of sickness, feelings of dread
I wait for the phone call to settle my fate
Oh, I'll beg for forgiveness; too little, too late
'Cause you're the most valuable thing, that I've got
Just a few quiet drinks, nothing more, nothing less
But it cost, it cost me everything

A few quiet drinks with the music and the laughter
It's festive and warm on a cold winter's night

This Song Is Definitely Not About You

Instinctively inconsiderate, intent on having fun
Conveniently covering-up, all the selfish you've done
You leave guidelines on the sidelines and ignore your inhibitions
And the golden rule to live by, is beg forgiveness
Not permission

And you stand above the rest but do you stand the test of time?
And do friendships have expiry dates, a month into their prime?

This song is not about you
It's definitely not about you
This song is not about you
It's definitely not about you
It's got fuck all to do with you

Some place to be, some face to see, you never seem to linger
You keep the people closest to you, wrapped around your little finger
You've got charismatic qualities, of that there is no doubt
And everybody's easily impressed
But your dominative tendencies, they don't stand above the rest

And do random acts of kindness help to clear a guilty conscience?
Or am I wrong in thinking that you even have a conscience?

This song is not about you
It's definitely not about you
This song is not about you
It's definitely not about you
It's got fuck all to do with you

And does friendship take the sidelines when it's served it's only purpose?
Left loitering behind you, success has deemed it surplus
Standing in the corner, hanging on to every word
And humiliation settles-in when the laughter's heard
When the laughter's overheard

This song is not about you
It's definitely not about you
This song is not about you
It's definitely not about you
It's got fuck all to do with you
It's got fuck all to do with you

Let's Get Lost

I see you sat amongst your friends
The silence says it all
Your loneliness is captured by the drab and empty walls
Yeah, I've seen the way you listen with that glazed and hollow look
I see you slowly shed a tear and leave it there to dry
The golden thoughts of yesteryear that slowly seem to die
I'm saddened by the notion that we're drifting through these days
And the state of my emotion is reflected in your gaze

So hand-in-hand let's walk away, let's find another world
Nothing planned, no more to say, our happiness unfurled

Major highs, manic lows
Mixing drinks to soothe the blows
Yeah this is where the evening goes when we're getting lost
Loved-up weekends, lazy days
Dreams escape the drunken haze
It's different feelings, different ways, of getting lost

So there's nothing planned, no more to say, nothing left to hide
You place your hand in mine, we lie resting side by side
And I see a smile start to slowly spread across your face
And the residues of sadness disappear without a trace
Dreams of feelings, dreams of days, nothing seems to matter
The kind of dreams that never fade; never seem to shatter
The kind of place where people live their lives without a care
With nothing left to lose, we're left with everything to share

So hand-in-hand let's walk away, let's find another world
Nothing planned, no more to say, our happiness unfurled

Major highs, manic lows
Mixing drinks to soothe the blows
Yeah this is where the evening goes when we're getting lost
Loved-up weekends, lazy days
Dreams escape the drunken haze
It's different feelings, different ways, of getting lost, yeah

Major highs, manic lows
Mixing drinks to soothe the blows
Yeah this is where the evening goes when we're getting lost
Loved-up weekends, lazy days
Dreams escape the drunken haze
It's different feelings, different ways, of getting lost
So let's get lost

The Long Night That Lies Ahead

And once again you've found me
In the only way that you can
You've swallowed all my thoughts
And now you're drowning all my senses
And you gradually surround me
As I dance beside McGahan
In this pyrotechnic paradise
You're perfectly relentless

You're simply irresistible
And I answer every one of your calls
It's momentary madness, but I'm aware of this
And I'm a man on a mission
You grab my hair without a care
And we thrust against a wall, and another wall
And with animal exuberance
We release all inhibitions

And it's the long night that lies ahead
An hour's gone, and now it's started
It's far too long since you departed
It's the long night that lies ahead
And you've left me broken and empty
And so depressed

Instinctively inseparable
I'm enthralled within you, and your existence
You lead me down to a darkened room
And we kiss
Increasingly irreparable
I'm in awe even though you're destroying me
For as long as I can remember
I've never felt like this

And it's the long night that lies ahead
An hour's gone, and now it's started
It's far too long since you departed
It's the long night that lies ahead
And you've left me broken and empty
And so depressed

And the room is cold and far too bright
And I'm slowly drifting through the night
Constantly awaken by the aching in my chest
I stare up at the empty ceiling, body starts to drain of feeling
But somehow that's much better than it was before
I wish my mind would do the same
Instead it's screaming out her name:
I simply can't forget her, the woman I adore
And there's not much more of this that I can take
I'm far too scared to simply stay awake
And I'm deafened by the sound of nothing whatsoever
Feeling null, and void, and petrified, and paranoid
For as long as I can remember
I've never felt like this
And I never want to feel like this again

And it's the long night that lies ahead
An hour's gone, and now it's started
It's far too long since you departed
It's the long night that lies ahead
And you've left me broken and empty
And so depressed
